First Tee of Monterey County provides youth of all backgrounds an opportunity for a brighter future.
We achieve this by putting in place a targeted curriculum of golf and character development, life skills, academic support, higher education, mentorship, and career development.
“Unfortunately, the city I live in is known for its gang violence. I wanted a better future. As a First Tee participant, I learned from persevering through problems to make the right choices based on my judgment,” said Pedro who was raised in Salinas and now works in the marketing department for the San Jose Earthquakes. Pedro joined First Tee in 4th grade and continued through high school. He learned interpersonal communication, self-management, goal setting and resilience skills. Awarded a scholarship, he graduated from Cal State Monterey Bay.
